“Buses. Shit. I’m still stuck with buses. Everytime I wake up, I think I'm going to be stuck on a bus.”

I have this whole Apocalypse Now vibe going on with Buses at the moment. Goddamn Buses. With public transport, you are dependent upon it. And we are dependent on it’s timing. We plan journeys based around it, on it’s frequency and claimed departures and arrivals, and accordingly, if they don’t run according to schedule, there are often very real and drastic longterm consequences.

You don’t buy a concert ticket and plan your arrival at the venue thinking you have to get there an hour and a half early just in case your train is an hour and a half late do you? Well, in wonderful Britain, you do.

You don’t plan on running into work 20 minutes late every morning, or an hour late, simply because the train can’t be bothered to run on time do you? You don’t plan on having to attend disciplinary meetings based on the fact that you are dependent and plan on timetables that for all their relation to reality, might as well have been written by a bored out of work writer who can’t their fiction published any other way? There’s consequences for a late train you know.

Monetary consequences. Emotional consequences sometimes. Sometimes the train is so late the entire purpose of your visit is just negated and thrown out of the window – why arrange a meeting for people from all around the country who are dependent on transport to get back also, if half of them can’t be guaranteed to turn up on time because of the unreliability of services.

It’s for the public. It’s a service. Withdraw Public transport, and we’ll see just how the economy falls apart.

Either way, waiting 25 minutes for a bus that comes once every 12-15 minutes is a fucking joke. Especially when the bus that does turn up in the end is an abbreviated service and you end up having to walk a quarter of a mile carrying a stone’s worth of shopping. And soon as you get off your abbreiviated service bus, seeing the one that drops you outside your door drive past. Why? Hell, I had no bloody idea it was going to come along did i? When you’ve waited as long as I had, then you feel lucky the bus has even turn up, let alone thinking “no, I’ll wait another 40 minutes for the next one shall i?”

Fuxake.

Buses are one of the reasons I’ve got bloody huge yellow bruises on my shin at the moment. Not as in being hit by a bus, but as in having to walk extra distances with 14 pounds of shopping in carrier bags, unavoidably banging into your knees and shins. You try having a 14 pound weight repeatably hitting the same part of your body over and over again, and tell me that it doesn’t hurt, that you’re not going to get bruises. If it was person, you could arrested for assault. Alas, you can’t do that with centro.

TSK.

Oh well, here’s some links. Some courtesy of my brother, who once dubbed me the human search engine, and some not.

01.Peter Tatchell of “outrage!” explaining and commenting on the whole homophobia and anti-gay aspects of jamacian dancehall music and culture. Quite perceptively, He asks a very simple but obvious question: why is it that black people have fought prejudice and oppression for hundreds of years as a minority group, then think it’s Ok if not laudable to oppress other minority groups? Whats the essential difference then, between hanging a negro from a tree, or setting them on fire – and doing the same to a gay person?

There’s no difference. If you accept or tolerate or promote prejudices of any form, then don’t be surprised if someone else’s prejudices include people like yourself. Why is it ok to punish and attack one minority group, but not others?

That’s hardly the equality you strive for is it. Nope, equality goes across the board. And by the way, It can’t be that god hates gays. God hates blacks too, so some church promote. Don’t forget the institionalised racism of churches ; the Mormon church for example taught it was god’s will that those who turned from god to Satan were punished by being black. The only way to remove themselves of the curse of dark skin was to turn to god.

Don’t use god and religion as a shield for your own prejudices. God wouldn’t approve to such message as “bedroom slaughterathon” or “boom bye-bye”. Murder is still murder. It doesn’t matter who they sleep with the colour of the skin.

02.Blog from iraq . Interesting.

03.The story behind Engima Publius - a random and interesting event that occurred in 1994. Some random poster called “Engima Publius” started posting on the Pink Floyd newsgroup. People were annoyed,. Then he made a
prophecy
"flashing white lights, East Rutherford, New Jersey, July 18, at about 10:30 p.m. "

At that time, beneath the stage upon which was the message “Enigma publius”.

London Earls court, October 20th, 1994. During the same portion of the show,
Which was being filmed and broadcast on TV and later released as the “pulse” live video, appears this message on the screen behind the band.

Funny really. The Engima publius was not isolated, and definitely related to the band itself. It has since become almost legendary as to the clue to the overall message behind the album “the division bell”. The solution is mind over matter – using the mind to conquer the differences we have, putting them to one side and working together. look here for the postings

04.Your Media is killing us.
Fascinating essay explaining the bias of the media and how it is failing us.

05. Michael Moore – too hot for Utah? Read about the efforts to stop him speaking at a Utha College.

06. I can’t…I’m a mormon.

07. is god trying to punish bush voters with the weather ?

08. And according to this , I am a Himbo. or, as i prefer to be called, a post-metrosexualist.

*adopts puppy dog eyes*

Cheerio!
Aha, night turned out differently than planned. Hence why I’m blogging right now.

Met giles in town, and went to the cinema, saw “Supersize Me”. Fascinating,. But whats the only thing you can when hungry and about the watch a documentary about the perils of fast food?

Fast food. Yep, Burger King. Oh, the irony. Or is it a childish sense of humour?

Good film. Came home. Cooked. Surfed the net. And its goodnight from me.

And in the news: - “Tony Blair is lying. He doesn't care about me," Mr Bigley sobbed, looking unwell and distraught. "My life is cheap. He doesn't care about me."

Of course Blair doesn't care. his son has no further use for him. blair is sucha fool, willing to sacrifice the lives of thousands of british soldiers rather than admit he is wrong. Or risk his place in history.

Todays update. Though I won’t be updating again for a couple of days. Usual list type thing tho’ I’m afraid.

01.I’m listening to An INXS CD-R of the Uk singles from Kick onwards. Reminds how, though they never were critically successful in the slightest, they made perfect stadium rock. Damn it, I really love INXS, and I never ever thought. It’s only when you sit down and listen to their backcatalogue, do you realise just how damn good they are. Or were.

Yes, I know that’s really embarrassing. But I don’t care. Sometimes you just gotta say Yes to another XS, or something. I mean, I like lots of embarrassing music. Rush, for example. I used to have the piss taken out of me at school for liking them as well as the glam rock of Posion, Tyketto, La Guns, Pretty Boy Floyd and Vain. Fine. Let’s see if any of those are still headlining arenas and selling records, or flipping burgers and playing sold out shoeboxes. The glam bands were a passing fad that soon dissipated, some other stuff still lasts tho’. But embarrassing records? I love the Younger Younger 28’s.

and hell, I even love Papa Roach’s “Infest” album, and I can't even use the excuse that I'm 16 anymore. Some music had no credibility, no critical standing, is completely underrecognised, yet still remains works of genius. Earthtone 9 for example.(Imagine Jane’s Addiction meets Tool via Faith No More).

02. Either way, having a mosey over here, because I’m sure I’m not alone in finding it absurd that Manowar have a “ladies Only”… section on their website

"As a show of gratitude to our Sisters of Metal, the Kingdom of Steel along with the international designer Enza have created an exclusive, high quality matching Babydoll t-shirt and panties set.

Comfortable, casual, edgy and dangerous, the Babydoll t-shirt is revealing enough to show off your Manowar tattoo and fashionable enough in black to go with any clothing ensemble. Featuring the classic Manowar logo printed in white, these items will make you feel sexy as you show your support for the Kings of Metal and drive the boys wild."

hmmmm.

03.Oh, piece of handy advice. Ever had trouble printing the screen on your PC? Need a printout? Simple. If you don’t or can’t do a screendump, there’s only ONE solution.

04.Apparently, years ago: Unilever's ice-cream department had developing a new ice-cream they were developing, with little chocolate rabbits in it. Don’t got really excited about it because they binned the idea. have to make do with Phish Food, but fish just isn't the same as bunnies. *sigh*. And the name? “Hidden Bunnies”. Who wouldn’t buy a food called that?

05.Apparently, Metallica were all ready to throw in the towel 2 years ago. According to a Dublin news site, both Lars and Kirk were on the verge of quitting . Apparently they “dreaded the moment frontman James Hetfield returned to the band after recovering from alcoholism - because they didn't want to record an album of "rehab songs".Drummer Ulrich and guitarist Hammett were so worried Hetfield would enforce his new clean lifestyle on recording sessions for the disc that became St. Anger they planned to quit.In the end, Hetfield let his fellow band members do what they wanted.Ulrich says: "We were thinking what if he comes back from rehab and says, 'OK, I've got an album full of rehab songs, and I'm not gonna let you drink and do what the f*** you wanna do.At which point I would have been, 'OK, nice working with you, I'm outta here.'"

06.Not office friendly

07.Bit of shocking news today. Someone I only met him a couple of times, but had a good chat or so with. Someone I sort of used to look up to in a way. Saw the band he was in loads of times, and when he got fucked over in the business situation, he upped and left for a job in IT. I kind of had respect of him for that – rather than rejoining the band, he took it as a paid position and upped and left rather than pretend he was still a rock star.

Now Floyd London has been diagnosed with leukaemia. Somewhere I have his email address, and somehow don’t think that dropping him an email would do anyharm. When i was 16, doctors suspected I had leukemia, so i know it's not good. He's one of the loveliest blokes I've ever met, and damn it, he rocked like a bastard.

And CRANK is the first album i ever played on CD so much it got scratched to fuck and I had to replace it.My brother hated hearing that coming out of my room every morning at 7.30am. Hell, Even i got sick of it in the end.

Sorry, bro.

*shakes fist quite angrily at the sky* "curse you god for making me have wonky eyes! Where's my optigrab?"

Off to do some emails and work 'n stuff.ciao!

Apparently A mr. GW Bush is flying in to heathrow tomorrow and visiting the Labour party conference for two hours. having a look at the schedule for tomorrow where it states for the afternoon session "Labour Party Annual Conference 2004
- International Fraternal Speaker - Improving health and education - Creating sustainable communities "
, it doesn't take a genius to work out who that is.

My response? fuck this! I'm leaving the planet! Courtesy of this .

Sometimes my life feels like a record. Not one of those of those happy, jolly ones. Nope. My life feels like a Tom Waits Record. I am a perpetual barfly, with a grizzly voice, with a woman who either doesn’t understand me and my inner pain, or even better, no woman at all, but an old fragrant whiskey bottle clutched in my arms like a friend who will never ever leave.

“Blood on the cheese, Say Hello to mr. Knife. I’m gonna get ya little mousey…”

Sometimes my pain, I can’t keep it all well hid. For the Danger Mouse T-Shirt on the outside and the ability to wisecrack, it’s just covering up the cracks. "I’m going out, and carrying on as normal", as the Pet Shop Boys sang once. Sure, I am pretend deefer is a real dog, and his excitability and the wagging of his tail when he meets new people and the ways he leaps at people, well, that’s just an excitable little puppy for you. Admittably, a puppy made of fluff and stuffing, but he’s like the happy me. The only thing he’s missing is a wet nose. And the wee and the shit, and the dogfood…..

He’s me when I’m in a good mood.

When I’m in a poor mood, I hide under the covers. Sometimes for days. The outside world can’t touch me there. I retreat. The outside world hurts sometimes, and the best way to make sure it doesn’t is to make sure it never gets the chance. Inside the room, under the covers, It’s warm, it smells like home. It will never leave me. It will never hurt me.

Sometimes I’m in a bad way. Sometimes I just want to sit in the room in the dark and watch the world go by. Bizarrely enough, its time like this where I wish I lived at the top of a towerblock. Where I could just sit on the balcony at night, and watch the world go by it’s business oh so far away….never mind me. I’ll just watch from afar, lost in my own little world.Just me and the sad songs, singing out while the tears run down my face.

Actually no. Tom Waits is too cheery. Tindersticks. That’s more me. A bunch of more miserable records you couldn’t hope to make, especially not so beautifully made. "There’s a crack in the roof where the rain pours through, That’s the place you always decide to sit,
Yeah I know I’m there for hours, the water running down your face,Do you really think you keep it all that well hid? "

No, I used to keep it all that well hid. Somewhere underneath that cold, heartless exterior (rather like a Vogon, but less ugly and with slightly better poetry) is a heart that hurts. And I still can’t write poetry for shit.

But for a long time, it never got to me. Something was wrong, and I’d just flick on the switch and go on autopilot from the second I was running for the bus to go to work, until the second I slept. Inevitably, I always went to bed alone, cold, and the person I loved, well, they didn’t want to know. I’d be lost in my own little world of distraction every spare second I had, unthinking and just lost in myself.

One day, I just wish I could take a step back and not be such a slave to my own desires and impulses.

[auto graham] enter miserable mode [/ auto off]

Part of me blames myself, as is inevitable in these circusmtances. After all, every relationship I’ve ever been in has failed, and the only factor they have in common is me. That’s makes pointing the finger and laying the blame a hell of a lot easier.

And you know what? it doesn’t mean I was wrong all the time. Some of the time certainly. But not all the time. Hell, I fucked up, and don’t I know it. If I hadn’t, I’d be in arms of someone who loves me, not sat in a bedsit room at a friends house, eeking out an existence from the building blocks of misery and long term depression. But there again, it’s not everyday that you get told to get out by someone you love.

"Oh, the men who love you, you hate the most, they past right through you like a ghost…"

If only I could put my lips to her lips, to stop the lie.

Dammit, now I’m nicking all my best lines from Bono. Oh boy, Not good. But how true they are. If only I could stop the lie. If only I could change things.

My biggest regret is, as I say, the past five years. Mainly marrying so soon, when I wasn’t ready, when I wanted to believe something so desperately I convinced myself it really was the love I was looking for, and not just the wrong person at the right time. At another one of my lowest ebbs when I became convinced that I had finally had something so right for me for a change. Sometimes I feel that if love was a lightbulb lighting my way, then I’ve been plunged into darkness with a bottomless abyss on either side….and I'm the one who smashed the bulb for good measure.oh, the melodrama...

I’m in a tailspin and I can’t pull up, I feel like I’m staring into oblivion. Well, not so much staring at it, as maybe frantically putting my foot on the accelerator and pressing the 'turbo' button. There’s a long way down yet before I level out and start to come back up for air.Cut adrift but still floating, I’m aimless, directionless and yet free in so many ways. Free to do what? To mope? To sit around writing bad poetry? To be introspective and narcissic? To lick my wounds, or to pour salt on them? Either way the pain is still there. Sometimes I don’t know which way to turn, and If I choose not to decide, I have still made a choice.

Sometimes I feel like I’m fumbling in the dark, not sure where I’m going or what I’m doing, lurching from crisis to crisis at random, snatching defeat from the jaws of victory. Last thing I want to do is grab hold of someone else and drag them down with me. But at the same time, I just want a pair of arms to wrap themselves around me and for me to lose myself in…

You see, I guess I always was a romantic at heart, rather than the hardbitten cynical bastard I am 99% of the time. I’ve still got hope somewhere in my heart. Hope that one day, things won’t be so shit. That’s what makes it so bad. I’m not resigned to a life of singledom, I haven’t accepted it yet. I’m convinced there’s someone out there for me still. Even someone as all broken up on the inside as I am a lot of the time.

I want you to know that you don’t need me anymore. Yes, you’re still my wife. That will change soon enough. I can admit when I’ve made a mistake. And you are my biggest regret, my biggest mistake. Together we turned something that could have been so beautiful into a twisted black cauldron of hurt. If I had had the courage to nip it in the bud and not get so carried away in the moment, get so carried away with things, maybe it would have hurt a lot. A hell of a lot. But it would have hurt a lot less than the way It’s been hurting the past few months. I’m sorry to have hurt you, because you don’t deserve the pain. No one does.

It certainly wouldn’t have been the easiest option. But the nagging doubts never went away, yet I got so caught up in how good it felt, that I ignored all those things. And now all I have is a plain gold ring, sat on the shelf , for all that’s worth, and a memory of a day that seemed like a wonderful dream that happened to someone else. A ring I will never ever get rid of , like the memories I can never rid myself of. It reminds me of the bad and good that love will bring. And It’s there to ensure I never forget my mistakes that cost me so dear. The things I shouldn’t have done. Nor would I ever want to get rid of it. Because if the love we had is nothing, I’d settle for a year of that nothing than a lifetime of never having known life without it. There, told ya I was a soppy sod sometimes didn’t I?

I want you to know I don’t need you anymore. But I wouldn’t trade those memories I have for anything in the world. It’s part of me now. And yes, fuck it, it really hurts sometimes. But ya know, it’s our pain that makes it worth it sometimes. If it doesn’t hurt, it didn’t mean a thing. And if it hurts like hell, then it meant a hell of a lot. But that doesn’t mean it was meant to be.

Outside my window, the sun is rising. Another shitty overcast day. People are getting up, eating breakfast, getting ready to go to work. They're going out and carrying on as normal. One day I’ll join them again. But not today.

Not today.

here’s the politics and links bit, ok?

1.Fascinating article looking into the religious aspects of geroge W. bush’s rhetoric and policy, whereby he sees himself as a man saved by god and called by god to power to re-enact his wishes. This combined with his millernerial world view whereby he is waiting for the day of the rapture that will involve as this posits "involve an apostate Jew leading an army to battle on the Plain of Armageddon , followed by the defeat of Satan by Jesus and the conversion of 12,000 Jews from each of the 12 tribes, who will then ascend to Heaven with all the world's Christian souls " means only one thing. It is not in George’s long term worldview to think beyond the current generation, because he is enacting gods plan to bring the world into the glory of the second coming.

great, the worlds most powerful nation being controlled by a religious zealot…A man who once stated that “I feel like God wants me to run for President. I can't explain it, but I sense my country is going to need me. Something is going to happen... I know it won't be easy on me or my family, but God wants me to do it.” ( The Observer November 2, 2003).According to Anthony Evans, a preacher from whom Bush often sought spiritual guidance, "one of the impetuses for his considering running for president was biblical teaching. He feels God is talking to him".

Most of time, when we think god is talking to people, we lock them up as insane.

2. And this is another interesting article: outlining why george W. Bush is in fact, the world’s leading terrorist , based on the definition by the FBI that “Terrorism is the unlawful use of force or violence against persons or property to intimidate or coerce a government, the civilian population, or any segment thereof, in furtherance of political or social objectives." (US Federal Bureau of Investigation) . Note the fact that terrorism is not limited to stateless organisations or individuals, but can also be applied to ‘legitimate’ and elected public officials and individuals.

3.And I know some say, that the reason why George W. Bush stayed reading a childrens book whilst the nation was attacked was that he believed it was a rehearsal, because a similar rehearsals have been documented as having happened before. Now , what are the odds of NORAD et al running a rehearsal of an attack whereby passenger jets are rammed into the pentagon and the WTC whilst it is ACTUALLY happening?

Either way, some say Bush authorized the attacks on the WTC on September 11th – such as former CIA Agent Ray McGovern as evidenced here .Another is Stanley Hilton, who was a senior advisor to Sen Bob Dole (R) and has personally known Rumsfeld and Wolfowitz for decades, and a transcript of an interview he made on a US radio show is available here .And tellingly, he says “I've known about this since earlier in March of '03, as I stated before. This was all planned. This was a government-ordered operation. Bush personally signed the order. He personally authorized the attacks. He is guilty of treason and mass murder. “

Anyone who doubts that the US lacks the will or ability to wage war and attack it’s own citizens for the purposes of engineering public opinion or to serve politico-military purposes , should just go to google and type in “Operation northwoods”. In which the US planned on attacking Miami Harbor in the early 60’s…from blowing up civilian ships to planting explosives, in an attempt to set up Cuba and use it as a pretext for invasion in the run up to the Bay of pigs and the 1962 missile crisis.

It’s been planned before, and that was declassified…. What remains underwraps?

4. Talking of people considered insane, the US authorities are currently hunting down a 57 year man, who has a hunting rifle and a plan to kill bush. Given that the net result of the actions of bush have been over 1,000 American deaths in Iraq and up to 50,000 civilians, perhaps they should just save him the bother and arrest Bush for Democide – death by government. But look at this way - George Bush the first didn’t get re-elected in 1992 after the firstr gulf war, so why should a George Bush the second? However, if he does stay in power, which I am fully expecting, I suspect he will continue full pelt the ruinous path of war, famine, and tax cuts. And Tony Blair will continue to lick his arse like a lost puppy.

5. Oh, and those of you with an interest in secret bases and so forth, might want to have a look at the following website which is based on a consolidation of opensource material which is fascinating. Discover exactly where in England all the black budget goes courtesy of here

6.The Un secretary has declared the war in iraq illegal and unsupported by the existing resolutions. According to the Eurolegal.org website, thus: "If the US can unilaterally claim the right to invade Iraq due to that country's violation of UN Security Council resolutions, other Security Council members could logically also claim the right to invade other member states that are in violation...

"For example, Russia could claim the right to invade Israel, France could claim the right to invade Turkey, and Great Britain could claim the right to invade Morocco, simply because those targeted governments are also violating UN Security Council Resolutions.

The US insistence on the right to attack unilaterally could seriously undermine the principle of collective security and the authority of the UN, and in doing so would open the door to international anarchy."

All aboard the good ship regime change! here we go.....! Mission accomplished in one own goal, Mr. Bush! ya daft fool....

6.here's the register's story about the recent announced vulnerability in JPEG exploitation for IE. Oh joy.

back to work.
Ok, its Saturday. It’s been a slow week in blogland. I’ve been working on the website and watching Star Wars DVD’s. Including “Empire Of Dreams”, a stunningly good documentary on the trilogy but which generally glosses over the 2nd and 3rd films by spending about 35 mins on each, as opposed to the 75 mins the first one gets….

It’s the closest we’ll ever get to a definitive documentary, but there’s huge swathes of material missing – discussion of the model work in the final endor battle and any animatics from the speeder bike chase for example…and it just feels rushed towards the end, The prequels for example, are dismissed in one line of dialogue. The massive undertakings of the special editions (Creating new CGI models for everything) are given a few brief minutes….rather than the 70 in the laserdiscs. And the laser disc commentaries are missing too, replaced with new less than stellar commentary tracks. TSK.

Either way, I have an apology to make. Sorry to anyone who was out at eddies last night wondering where I was. A sudden change of plans and monetary issues put paid to it. Simply, Yesterday was a great day, or so it seemed. Went out, met friends, ate pizza, that kind of thing. Came back via the pub, where some friends were, and having got bored and with five slices of leftover pizza in my bag – or as we call it in the trade, code pie… - decided I was bored with life , to use a quake-ism, and left the pub to come home. By the time I was home, money didn’t look too good and therefore neither did the prospect of going out again, so I stayed in.

Though my mate pete decided to regale me with his tales of drunk driving, an ABH charge and how he got roofied in the custard factory. Watching some hip hop DJ, He’s got his pint on the stage. And then he collapses. Unable to move, speak or anything, he’s utterly fucking monged as the bouncers carry him out. And then they dump him on the floor. Whilst an asian kid rifles through his pockets, nicking his phone and wallet. I suppose the moral of this story is, if you aren’t asian, don’t fuck with the asian mafia and turn up to the Desi beats nights. It’s inverse racism, black against white maybe, but still, utterly fucked up. Utterly fucked up.

And then I couldn’t sleep. I never can, late at night. I lie awake in bed for hours, wondering why I can’t sleep and why I’d really rather be doing something productive instead.Oh, and Bo Rap, for chavs....

And I been listening to Goldie lookin Chain (a lot) , who happen to be utterly brilliant and rubbish at the same time. It’s hilarious, satirical and yet acutely well observed about the obsessions of 20 something blokes who grew up on the A-team, ZX Spectrums and Electro.

Today was a different day though.Day of regret, I suppose.

I wonder why I ever got married. I got married too quick, too soon. Don’t ever make my mistake, people. Never ever get married the way I did.Please. Save yourself the hurt.

We had been together though happenstance, really. Accident of nature. A few months if that. I’d been made homeless and my friend Dawn had offered me her sofa, and she had been going out with my brother at the time. She and he split, - it’s unnecessary to say why. He married someone else.I moved from sleeping on the sofa to the bedroom.

Problem was , Dawn is a religious person. So having a live-in lover, as I was, was a difficult and awkward situation to be compatible with the beliefs of her church. Her church – she is a mormon – is very family orientated. By orientated, I mean everything revolves around getting married having babies and bring them up as children of god. In other words, they intend to fuck their way into numerical superiority. There’s mormon families out there with six or seven children, more than any family can really afford to raise. Who’s going to be able to buy an 8 bedroom house nowadays?

Either way, they convened a court to make a judgement. They discussed the possibility of chucking her own of the church for good. Fact of the matter is, I was starting to feel towards her the way I shouldn’t have. But we agreed to tell them we’d marry, because she didn’t want to be chucked out of the church / hit 30 and be a spinster / wanted babies. I wasn’t in a rush to get married at all. I was quite happy not to. But to her, it was paramount. Every day it’d be raised, and then she’d spent 3 hours online looking at cake decorations and wedding dresses and etiquette. Insanity. And based on a notion of insecurity.

Either way, I was happy. For now. I thought I had finally got everything I wanted. A woman who I loved, and who loved me. The wedding was planned for June. Then it was rushed forward to February. The church was ready on that day, and she didn’t want to marry a younger man. After all, She would have been 29 and I , 28 in June.

So there you go. A marriage of convienience then. She didn’t get chucked out of the church, she didn’t end up hitting 30 being a spinster, I ended up with a roof over my head. On paper, it looked like a Win-Win situation. In reality, it was lose-lose.

Why? Simple. We loved each other. But love, wasn’t enough. What we had was pressure. I felt pressurised, bullied almost, into marrying her. It felt wrong, but I wanted it, so desperately wanted it to be right. Because all my life I had been searching for the one. Now I had found them. I wanted the search to be over. And so , suddenly it was. We agreed to marry. It seemed like the right thing to do.

Just because you want something to be true, doesn’t mean it is. Just because you want something to be perfect, doesn’t mean it is. But that’s nothing compared to the belief, the self-belief that it really really could happen….this really could be the one. And you desperately want it to be true, that every little thing becomes a sign that it is true, and finally the search is over, and you can settle down .

Now, self-delusion caused the power of wishful thinking is a dangerous thing. It doesn’t just apply to one side of an equation either, or one side of a relationship. What if, both of the people in the relationship end up deluding themselves? Then , if that is the case, both of them end up unhappy, married to each other, in the hope of what that person might yet become….it doesn’t mean you’ve found the one. You’ve just found someone. And it doesn’t mean you’re settling down, just settling for now. Settling for secondbest. I always knew I would never get what I wanted out of life. I always knew I would never find that perfect person.

Why should I waste my time searching for an unattainable goal? I thought I just bypass the years of rejection and disappointment and head straight to secondbest territory. Which sounds so fucking nasty, but isn’t supposed to be really. It’s just a recognition that the perfect partner is a fantasy, a myth, a lie, and that I should root my ambitions a little closer to reality. Thing was, I was just foolin’ myself, and I mistook what I wanted to be real for the real thing. Like someone sticking Rola Cola in a Coke bottle…and if you’d never had proper Coke before, how would you know the difference?

So the moral of this is as follows:-

1. Just because you love someone, doesn’t mean they have to love you back.
2. Just because you want something to be real, doesn’t mean it is.

“got married cos you should
We both knew we should
You do at our age
This stage of our career
Things get tight
A ring helps get a mortgage
To move out of daddy's home
Get a bigger car
Easy access to the city
I can read the papers in peace
And laugh at the homeless
I know my friends criticize
But we get by OK
So what if there's no emotion
We can wake up anywhere
There's never a row
No time for a kiss
When you've got schedules to meet
Trivialities seem so cheap
This is above love
This is more than real
This is all there is
This is as good as it gets-
Intense morality parades

It's Friday and last time I blogged was Tuesday. Where does all the time go? Down a puddle or something I should expect.

OK, quick recap:-

Since Tuesday I have, in no particular order...

- Stayed up way too late (like 5.30am) unable to sleep. Insomnia combined with hypermania (ie the ability to race around franctically and get NOTHING done) has this effect on me. What I actually did was tidy up my room, because two weeks on concentrating on the work on the intermong had left domestic affairs in a bit of a state. I don't want to ever be that untidy again, but it is assured that it will happen one day. probably soon too.

- Sat in front of a computer, typing up documents, sending emails, working on HTML, looking up tracklists for CD's, which i got from...

- meeting My brother who was in birmingham for business. Thanks to pissy trains and buses he was early and I was late. We talked about work, ventures, and shit...nice to see him, swapped bags of shit, that kind of thing

- Went to see the CHRONICLES OF RIDDICK (epic, lavish over the top Sci-fi) and ENVY (Utter rubbish)

- Slept. Far too much. Even napped on the sofa and then went to bed. i blame to anti-depressants - they knock me out too much. I then went to bed and slept for 15 hours straight. I feel wonderful, but when i realise I really only spent about 5 hours awake yesterday; ie I slept too much, and have spent some 21 hours of the past 36 asleep (or in contrast to last week, some 65% of the time, as opposed to last week where I only slept 16% of the time), jeez!

- And then sat in front of the computer. Again....

Tuesday, September 21, 2004

OK, it’s Tuesday. Insert your own joke about me only blogging on days with the letter ‘y’ in it at your own convienience. Yep, It’s one of those lists of points for the day kind of entries.

1.By the way, I’m not publishing the information here, just commentating on the complete lack of coverage of the story about the daughter of a Prime Minister attempting to commit suicide. It can be found here and here .

Yep, Press Blackout. And there doesn’t appear to be a D notice in sight. No national security to protect. Maybe this is why Tony Blair was thinking of quitting? Apart from the endless bullying at school because her dad is a warmongering fool.

Apparently the method was the normal female ‘cry for help’ suicide. So called because, according to studies, more women than men make suicide attempts, but suicide rates for men are higher overall because shooting your brains out with a shotgun is much more successful than the vodka/pills method. Maybe she shouldnt have been listening to ‘Comfortably Numb’ By Pink Floyd…but if I had to listen to music whilst committing suicide, It’d be Judas Priest and Ozzy Osbourne. Based on that track record, I’d stay alive with half me face missing...

Either way, given that the story is currently out there and on NON-uk based websites, it can’t be denied. Just removed from the public eye in an Orwellian ‘non person’ kind of way. It’s not libellious, because you can only be sued for libel if it isn't true. Given that been confirmed by other MP's and reported elsewhere, the onus is to prove it didn't happen. Medical records would surely prove that it did happen. Short of slapping on a D notice, which is unlikely given that it is hardly a matter of national security, its a simple and clear case of censorship.

So Going to war on made up evidence is ok? And reporting the truth that he cannot even control his own family isn't? Shit, if the fact he’s driven his own daughter to suicide isn’t enough of a moral case for his unsuitability for office, what is?

I'm making the moral case for publishing it; though not neccesarily here. Rather like making a moral case for removing saddam, given that we sold him all the weapons in the first place..

2.Oh, and talking of shitty media, I bought the sun today. Why? When I was young ‘un, I used to watch terrible 80’s spy movies. Such as “Who Dares Wins” which is todays free DVD movie in the scum.

Now, “Who Dares Wins” has dated so badly, it’s untrue. It’s the tale of an SAS soldier who infiltrates “The People’s Lobby” a peace group who’ve decided to prove how evil nuclear weapons are by seizing the US ambassador and having two nuclear weapons detonated, to turn the pro-nuclear public against nuclear weaponry.

Never has a more risibile and blatant attempt at discrediting the peace movement existed. It's quite possibly a ultimate right-wing hawk fantasy of a movie, short of RAMBO:First blood II which rewrote the vietnam War with Rocky and a M-60 machine gun. Showing the paranoia within the Uk regarding CND at the time, I'm surprised that they didn't just change the name of 'the people's lobby' in the movie to CND..... because, lets face it, the message of this movie is obviously to discredit CND as a dangerous subversive commie loving fifth column. Quislings, each and every one of them.

All CND protestors are secret revolutionaries, ready to kill for peace. Fucking hell, it's nothing more than a propaganda exercise in the post-Falklands, post-Iraq Embassy storming by the SAS enivorment on how our boys are protecting us from the loonies of the world. An example of how the SAS and rightwingers are just protecting us from dangerous lefties. And brought to you today by the paper that bemoans the BBC as the 'baghdad Broadcasting corporation', and labelled C4 on it's launch as 'communist TV'.

Why am I not surprised by that? There again, maybe I liked it was because given my lack of critical faculties at such an age, to me then it was just about how cool and hard the SAS are, and there’s blokes doing cool shit with guns . This may explain why most of my childhood up to about the age of 12 revolved around guntoys and pretending to rescue my grandmother from terrorists on a train.

The only way to make it better is to have an authentic way of recreating the movie experiences of the early 80’s, the glory days of VHS. Which means a series of DVD’s of early 80’s video nasies in shitty degraded resolution, with the image ghosting to fuck, colours bleeding worse than a DIY amputation and shitty mono sound. And when you’re starting to wonder why the picture looks so rubbish, you notice the sound is so muffled because theres a couple having a stand-up row several rows in front, and some kids throwing overpriced popcorn and taking the piss.

Just to think, the Cinema where I watched “Return of the Jedi” no longer exists. Where I saw “The Empire strikes Back” is now an office building for an insurance company. Where I saw the “Black Hole” is now a block of flats. Where I saw “Star Trek: The motion picture” is now a bingo hall. And where I saw “Indiana Jones And the temple of Doom” is now the site of a drive-thru macDonalds. And where I saw “Indiana Jones and the Last Crusade” is now a lapdancing club. Not one of the cinema’s I can think has survived from 1989 until now. Except the Odeon in the centre of town, and that’s only survived by turning it’s historic single screen 70mm presentation for 1500 people into 8 separate auditoria.

3.I really hate buses. Trains. Any form of public transport. And totally bogus information that’s just wasted like, 2 hours of my life, man. Like the way the Star Wars trilogy is 27.99 in Borders.

It’s not. Except if you spend £20 on other products in the same purchase. Wankers. Which means it’s not £27.99. And saving that £2 would be the only reason to travel into town, otherwise I could have gone to Northfield, and bought it in Smiths or Woolies for £29.99 anyway. Which means I need not have spent so long stuck in slow moving traffic which makes a 38 minute bus journey last 61 minutes, and then got stuck waiting 25 minutes for a train out of Birmingham anyway.

4.I hate spyware. I really do. Just had to go and delete some spyware off this machine. If there’s one thing I hate, it’s useless twunts who think spyware and shit like that actually generates money. There’s shits, and always gonna be shits , and nothing short of death by being nibbled piecemeal by tiny rats is gonna stop that,.

5.The Sun. page 37 of Saturdays edition was the charmingly brilliant “Chav Chic” article.

How to embrace a culture of thuggery and wilful underachievement, with pretensions of better better than everyone else simply because :-
i)you aren’t afraid of using violence and intimidation as a way of life
ii)your inability to buy any clothes which don’t have elasticated waistbands or clothes which only look a 10th of the price you paid for them
iii) You want to look like everyone else.
iv)you think given your unwanted bastard kid a triple barrelled name like Kylie or Chevanne is an instant way to achieve classiness

Fucking morons. Proud to be chav? Dammit, if you didn’t give away shitty free DVD’s of crap movies from 20 years ago, I’d never buy your scumtown paper again.

and yet they call Michael Collins a thug, but celebrate his culture like it’s the new form of royalty.By the way, this pic? It's the reason why i'll never buy the sun again....except for the free shit.

6)Star Wars DVD’s. Watched them yesterday. Very disappointed at Lucas’ continual revisionism. The 1997 CGI still looks fake and there’s an obvious drop in the quality and believability of the effects for those sequences. Though I was noticed some new sound effects in the mix, and the addition of an additional piece of effects work in the Shuttle docking sequence in Empire Strikes Back - though it is a completely extraneous and pointless sequence anyway – which makes it look slightly less like an outtake from Return of the Jedi, but funnily enough, the shuttle design is completely unlike the one seen earlier in the film, which ruins the internal consistency…..As does Luke looking over at the spirit of his dad who he’s never ever seen…..and therefore wouldn’t recognise, in a scene which only makes sense if you watch the six movies in one sitting. Which removes any possibility of enjoying the original trilogy in its own right.

Either way, listen to this from the commentary on Return of the Jedi, courtesy of lucas:-

“ I'm still amused by people who somehow think that when you use cyber-technology or digital technology in movies, suddenly it's 'fake' — but when you look at a scene in here in Jabba's palace, now there's some digital characters in here, but they're no more or less fake than all the other characters in here. I mean, is a digital character more fake than a big fat rubber character?"[laughs]"I mean, there's nothing real here at all — and it's hard to say that a rubber character has more integrity than a digital character. What I try to do is just make the characters become believable — so that they look realistic enough where you have a suspension of disbelief and accept them as characters rather than tricks, which is what they all are."

Thing is – The big fat rubber character has a physical presence. An existence. It exists as a physical object. A bunch of hex code and pixels has NO physical existence, but is instead a mathematical algorithim.

And elsewhere in the changes : if they replace Boba Fett's voice with Temura Morrson why not replace the voices of all the Stormtroopers with his voice? Not an original point, but still. And though he’s changed the letter of Tractor beam control into Aurabesh (the special typeface used in TESB and ROTJ), why are the numbers on the targeting computers in the X-wings not in Aurabesh then? Eh?

Fact of the matter is, we’ll never see the original editions – or even the special editions – ever on DVD. Is it telling somehow, that lucas has dropped the “Special Editions” title from the current DVD release? Why would he do that unless if he sees these as the definitive, final versions? They aren’t definitive – look at the mass criticism of the new audio mix in ANH where the sections of the orchestra have been reversed in the speaker set up, courtesy of here.

Courtesy of yahoo, here are his words
“Why not release both the originals and special editions on DVD?

Lucas: The special edition, that's the one I wanted out there. The other movie, it's on VHS, if anybody wants it. ... I'm not going to spend the, we're talking millions of dollars here, the money and the time to refurbish that, because to me, it doesn't really exist anymore. It's like this is the movie I wanted it to be, and I'm sorry you saw half a completed film and fell in love with it. But I want it to be the way I want it to be. I'm the one who has to take responsibility for it. I'm the one who has to have everybody throw rocks at me all the time, so at least if they're going to throw rocks at me, they're going to throw rocks at me for something I love rather than something I think is not very good, or at least something I think is not finished”

If its half a completed film, I demand half of the money I ever paid you in buying the tapes , the VHS, and all the toys back. We love the films, think they are astounding, and I don’t mind having the new editions out as long as we can watch the film they were originally intended. And all this from a man who bemoans the fact that three Stooges movies are available in colourised versions in ADDITION to the original black and white versions,. At least they gave us a choice, unlike Lucas’s Orwellian revisionist view of history, ala THX-1138.

And no, this is NOT me. I do have a life ya know. Not much of a life, but I do have one.

By the way, anyone who wants to check out just exactly how much Star Wars has been bastardised by the new special editions in 1997 best check out his page -

And this, if you follow Star Wars, is really very very funny. But geeky.

I'm off to carry on tagging HTML documents. Share and Enjoy!

Evening all. And hello to Mondaygirl – I like it when ppl comment on my blog. Mainly because it actually lets me know that people read this stuff, and I’m not just read by an audience of me and my bro. Cheers. But that’s awfully narcissic of me isn’t it?

Either way, I went out last night. Got back at about 4am.It felt like I was in a Lethal Weapon movie at times – you know the bit when Murtaugh turns to Riggs and says “we’re getting too old for this shit”? That was me last night. Except I’m not a LAPD officer whose hands are registered as a Lethal Weapon….

So, quite roundup of yesterday. Can’t Sleep. Get up at about midday and go out to Northfield. Then Into town. Pop over a mate’s in kingstanding, watch a bit of Tv and talk shit, go to charity shop and then get back via Sainsbury in Selly Oak. Which is inevitably shit. Why? It’s over run by students, who appear to subsist solely on Sainsbury own brand classic cola : 6 litres for £1.50 for the finest own brand cola available. Which doesn’t mean they are fat and overweight yet, but simply fuelled by caffeine student loans and youth. Which means only one thing. The shelf of Sainsbury Classic Cola is inevitably and ALWAYS empty. Every single time I go there, it’s as empty as an invading army’s morals.

And my mate Ian – tall skinny, laconic goth that he is – comes over. My bro decides to ring, and consequently debate the validty of the new wonderstuff lineup whilst my mate is waiting patiently to go out.All the while, I’m thinking “I don’t care what you say, because my mate is downstairs waiting to go out, and I’ve seen the evidence for myself and I’ve made my mind. Nothing you can say that sounds like it was written by the miles hunt press officer / apologist is going to change my mind” . And no, mark, putting your point of view in the talkbacks isn’t going to change a fucking thing, so no need to even bother.

Either way, we decide to end up at a goth night neither me or ian have ever been to – at the Bristol pear (just by Selly oak train station, in the function room at the back). The DJ looks like he’s surfing with a laptop before playing shitty identikit teutonic industrial with no bass and no topend – all midrange from shitty MP3’s – which are mainly indistinguishable. Grrrreat. I end up texting “Please Help me. I am in in the worlds lamest goth club…” to my mates. I generally get sarcastic responses. These range from “you do it to yourself you silly goth” from my brother – he what owns all the mission and sisters records – to Ian who is sat next to me, raising his eyebrow in a laconic fashion with Roger Moore would have difficulty emulating.

Quite why I texted him whilst he was sat next to me, I don’t know. It sure seemed funny at the time. Still, my prediction of their being cute goth chicks girls being stood round the side of the room whilst I come to conclude they’ve all got blokes or not interesting in a old, bald overweight fuck like me seems about right. After all, aren’t I a skinny teenage goth’s dreamboy?

Yeah, like fuck.

By the time they’ve played The timewarp, and I’ve seen men running around with glowsticks, and one with said glowsticks tied up in his ponytail, which then fell out and he put it BACK IN, me and Ian we’re seriously on the verge of saying , fuck this, let’s get on the bus.

By the time we realise that this closely knit group isn’t welcoming strangers – in the same way that say rednecks close up together in fear that their sister and wife might be revealed to be the same person, or in the way that children aren’t supposed to talk to strangers…. – we do say, fuck this, lets get on the bus

And we end up in the academy. Shit, it’s been a long time since ive been to Academy. Like, 3 years.Too long. And I’ve not been in here since XL’s shut down. And they brought the XL’s posse in here. Which I had no idea they had done until this evening. Walking past, heard some suitably nasty and loud music so we figured it was better to try somewhere new than end up in eddie’s again.

Maybe we shouldn’t have bothered.

Wall to wall nu-metal. I’m in there 20 minutes before I hear something I recognise. Limp fricking bizkit. First of two linkin bizkit songs that night. Then I go to the balcony, having paid way too much for a pint of pissweak watered down cider. This was our plan to go looking for young and attractive Goths, but they don’t end up in Edwards anyway – eddies is full of the same suspects week in and week out… no one’s getting any younger, and so we thought we’d try somewhere new. And boy, did we kinda realise the error of our ways soon enough.

It was when we started seeing the skinny blokes covered in tattoo’s, with skinheads, running around bare-chested in the pit, throwing each other around, treating the moshpit like an excuse to start a fight with naked untamed aggression and stupidity. For all I could tell, they might as well have started seig-heil’ing at any point. This is only a slight exaggeration, mind you. The violence isn’t exaggerated. When they start dragging random blokes in and throwing them around into strangers in an attempt to start a fight by any means possible, that’s when I feel just total despair.

Oh, how mercifully free of the ravages of intelligence they are….

However, come 2AM, the bar shuts and the nu-metal stops. No more non-stop killswitch engage or mudvayne or LostProphets or Good Charlotte and Eminem and Linkin park, no more identikit nu-metal with the same whiny emo-esque vocals. Nope, Now it’s time of the night when the old fogies come out to play. Guns n Roses “Paradise City”, Aerosmiths “Dude look like a lady”, Metallica’s “Sad But true”. Forget nu-metal, here’s tru-metal. And no Dio or manowar in sight.

However, the view from the balcony does allow you to eye people up without them noticing, and then check their immeadiate vicinity to see if they’ve got blokes, or blokes trying to pull around them, and that sort of thing. Which sounds awfully predatory, but lets face it, I’m 31 and I’m truly now left to the chasm that is unsuccessful internet dating now I can’t play air guitar and pull anymore, what with it being the naughties and everything. I’m not the kind of guy to try and find girls half my age who’ve just arrived for fresher’s week and hope they’re looking for a sugardaddy, like the horrific sight of a man with a beergut buying an 18 year old a drink in the square peg earlier….

Somewhere I feel like I fell off the dating ladder. So why did I stop going out all the time? Well, ask yourself this, why do you go out? You can listen to better music at home and not have to pay bar prices…unless it’s to meet people. It’s the hwole side of going out is to meet people, see what happens. When you find someone, you don’t need to do that anymore, so well, you don’t. You stay in. you fall off the scene. You don’t know where people go anymore, or whether nights are any good. You are a stranger in your hometown. People shout “Billy no mates” at you in the pub. That kind of thing.

Now, regular readers may know me and the wife split about 5 months ago. Hence my return to going out. Now I just tend to be awkward, sat at the side ina sisters of mercy shirt and short hair, drinking cider and black and remembering the good ol’ days.

Might be out next Saturday also. Dunno yet. We’ll keep ya posted, by the way. If anyone wants to join me, just mail me dudes. It’s grahambreed_uk at yahoo dot com. By the way, this offer does not apply to chavs, townies, neds, scammers, wankers or disgruntled relatives, ex-wives or relations, and so forth. I’d just rather not have the hassle. Life’s too fucking short to be a twat.

Having just read the above post, I apologise for having greown and turned into a walking cliche - the aging rocker looking back over his earlier years with regret before cutting his hair and filling out AND buying some workshirts.I think thats cliche #34 in the big book of hoary old clihes, just sandwiched between "Pyro in the encore", and "air guitar cures smog"....

more questions to come soon. Tomorrow? six and a half hours of the finest trilogies ever made...and not a hobbit in sight.....

first up, just a quickie. and a real quickie i mean.

Off out tonight. i'll probably stand at the back, supping my coke and taking the piss out of young goths who are way too beautiful for me to even contemplate pulling, mainly beacuse being stunning attractive like they inevitably are, they have no interest in an oik like me and secondly, they already have goth looking blokes anyway.

Hello again blog. Today I’ve been working hard on the webshite, and consequently, not blogging til late. PR companies are starting to notice us, no one is getting paid, and I even got to see the prog-tastic Rush the other day too. Good stuff.

So here’s the usual links n’ shit.

1. Apparently Im a shy guy, with a 69% chance of pulling, thanks to this test. It says that I am “always in control, and that often works out the best on a holiday night out, But stop playing it so safe! We know its not cool to get wasted, but you need to let down your hair and live a little! Perhaps a bit of dutch courage will give you that pep you need to go for it a bit more.”

This means I need a refund on at least 2 out of 3 nights I go out, because I never pull.

2. How can you forget your natural hair colour? Don’t the collars and cuffs match or something? Haven’t you, like, any pictures of you in past at all? You’d think so as a movie star. But NO! Reese Witherspoon's decision to die her hair brown has left her confused - she can no longer remember her natural color. But maybe its coz she is as daft as a brush. Afterall, as she admits, “Neither of us has seen the real color for so long we just don't know. But it hasn't made me any smarter, I still say stupid things with brown hair too."

3. Well, bored of george bush? Now you can manipulate him much as he manipulates the rest of world. With this .

5.Mambo open source is free, but it’s buggy as hell, often unreliable, doesn’t save changes even though the version number changes, prone to random acts of adding extra gaps, and all in all very frustrating

6.Next time I see Eminem, I want to be identifying the body from being involved in a drive-by with some proper gangsta’s, rather than his diluted down Amos and Andy performing wife-beating misogynist, homophobic minstrel white-boy shit he churns out.

7.I fucking hate buses. I really do.

Today, I left the house at 2.55pm to go to northfield. The Bus didn’t arrive until 3.36 – three minutes after my bus pass ran out. Having left 35 minutes waiting for a service that should run once every 15 minutes – it was due, according to the website at 3.00pm, 3.15pm and 3.30pm, and didn’t turn up once.

The driver wouldn’t let me on. He huffed and puffed and threw a shit fit. The bus was full, and that was only two stops down the line. Other passengers were heartily agreeing with me, but the inflexible cunt of a driver – who could have chosen an override at his discretion at any time – just sat there, uncaring and heartless.

I took the bus number and left. No point inconviencing a bus full of passengers because of his intolerable attitude. Quite frankly, he told me he wasn’t leaving the stop. Fact is, I’d already paid for the service. I wasn’t trying to defraud him in the slightest. It’s just there’s no way in a civilised world that such service, where customers are an incovienience and treating them like cattle, is unacceptable.

If I’d left the house at 3:31 expecting to get on the bus, then I’d be in the wrong. But after 35 minutes, I’m not going to turn around and go home am I. Not at all. But after that, I did the only thing I could do.

Dialled the phone number and registered a formal complaint, quoting the bus number, which will allow them to trace the driver ; it was 4377.

Hope that cunt gets the same treatment next time he gets poor service. It’ll serve him right. Now , you see, drivers can legitimately do an override if they are timetabled to have left before 15.30 and are running late. In this case, he didn’t. But the 62 that drove past mid argument would have been scheduled to leave on time, and he could have – and should have – done an override. I don’t know who that driver was, but I know he was a heartless, inflexible, pen pushing twat.

Next time I see him, I hope it’s down the fucking dole office.

Last night, I was surrounded by men with 3 days stubble, longhair, blue denim jeans, and silver pendants. Ladies and gentlemen, where do rockers and metal heads go when they gorw up? They go to RUSH concerts, dear.Well, Last time I saw this many mullets was at Billingsgate fish market

It's probably the only rock gig where you can buy a book of travelogues by the drummer at the merch stall. Along with Bobbleheads of the band. And an insanely large collection of T-Shirts. Tour Programmes, Binoculars, and 4 bottles of carlberg lager for £10.00. Which in the supermarket down the road would cost you £2.90 .

Cheapest Merchandise item? Ear plugs £1.00
Most Expensive? Rush leather Jacket. £299.00

However, Expanding waistlines and old faded 20 year Rush tour shirts you can no longer fit into without exposing more belly than a poledancer, are not sexy on men. And .If Bill+ted were right, and Air guitar cures smog, then Blair has nothing to worry regarding about the enviroment.....

Honestly, Rush have a lot to answer for. OK, hang on, I'll explain. Its a bit of an in joke for those who listen to progrock.

Anyone remember George lucas’s THX-1138? About a future society where emotions are repressed and one man tries to assert his reindivudality, start a revolution?

RUSH's earlier albums - especially 2112 - were influenced by Ayn Rand , who the lyricist had been reading a lot of; and specifically the book Anthem. The general crux centeres around someone in an anonymous society where entertainment is regulated, and people are calle dup to court for crimes of individuality.

And What is 2112 about? A futuristic society where entertainment and so forth is carefully vetted and people are generally treated anonymously. However, one guy discovers the power of music, and leads a revolution. The whole anonymous society / attempted revolution thing is a giveaway.

And look what the plot is of the Queen "we will rock you" musical? A anonymous society where individuality and music are repressed , only to be liberated by the music of 70's era progrock and loud guitars. Sounds familiar?

Oh well, here’s goes the talent!

Other random points for the day:-

1. if the internet does break down, thenwell, might the fact that it is the internet is full of men endlessly trying it on with women in chatrooms have something to do with it? They also go "horny male 31" (or something), then tell you were in the country they are, then ask Age/Sex/Location (as ASL?) and then ask if you bother wanna play with yourselves on webcam. i've seen it happen so many times, it's the most sleazy thing I can imagine.

2.Fox hunting protestors. TSK.look at the evidence.

When we go to the countryside, they expect us to take our littler with us. When they come and scare the city folk by visiting the towns, they even leave their expensive Modet et chandon behind for us like the messy buggars they are. Moral of this story: practice what you preach.

Hell, if fox hunting is so humane, who not show our solidarity and see how humane it is buy hunting down a runaway before tearing them limb form limb whilst conscious, Running man stylee.

3.I went to the second worst uni in england - uni of teesside in middlebrough - and it was a right hole. Middlesbrough; hard and manly and tough, where the men are men and casualty is overflowing with glassed blokes in rockport tops. The only reason for ever going back is to leave immeadiatley or burn the town to the ground...

4.karftwerk, lego stlyee

5. The Madrid bombing. As a gif of frames from the CCTV cameras….

Graham x
Ok, Just a very quickie this one.

just got back from seeing Rush. Good gig. Pretty lightshow, lasers, progrock and mullets. Aces.

By the way, come christmas time, there's a new king of DVD in town. The Ultimatrix collection. No, this doesnt involve leather or whips. But keanu Reeves and a sci-fi trilogy that's grossed $1.6billion in box office.Touch choice though, as to which one to go for.....

Interesting facts. travelling anywhere? Look here first, for its' the cia world book.

Take Hungary for example:- apparently its a small country in yurop, no oil/gas to speak off so not worth invading... its a transshipment point for Southwest Asian heroin and cannabis and for South American cocaine destined for Western Europe; limited producer of precursor chemicals, particularly for amphetamine and methamphetamine; improving, but remains vulnerable to money laundering related to organized crime and drug trafficking.Oh ...and there may be dragons.

so a bit like Hackney then.except for the dragons bit. Look at what it says about the UK

"producer of limited amounts of synthetic drugs and synthetic precursor chemicals; major consumer of Southwest Asian heroin, Latin American cocaine, and synthetic drugs; money-laundering center"

Todays random selection of facts.

1. I got up at 1AM, and havent been to bed yet. I have had less than 2 hours sleep in the past 32. The wallpaper is currently trying to tell me something, but it's using the voice of Phil oakey of the Human League. The moral of this story? get some sleep, and stop trying to do everything at once.

2.If you are ever in conversation with Lemmy from motorhead , do not, under any circumstances whatsoever, mention Castle Communications to him. He will be very unhappy, apparently. Presumably becuase castle continued to fuck him overwith continual reissues of material. The ten track re-issue of no sleep at all, with two tracks taken off at random, is dreadful, for example.

However, this may have a lot to do with their endless repackaging of the catalogue. Which has been sped up by licensing the stuff from alternative sources (live stuff / demo's etc.) ; because when fast Eddie Clark left in 1981, he took all his tapes from his archive and started selling off the rights when money got tight. Hence the numerous reissues with loads of dodgy live tracks. I am changing my name to discography boy by deed poll.

3.todays quirky fact:"Ace of Spades" is motorhead's FIFTH biggest single, peaking at #15. Which is bizarre because its the one track everyone associates with 'em, and people never think of their four top ten singles. Of which Ace of Spades was NOT one - it peaked at #15.

Ok, so their biggest hit , "Please Don't touch" was actually credited to Headgirl, but this is a technicality. The reason why it didn't come out as Motorhead is because drummer Philthy 'Animal' Taylor couldn't play in the studio when they were recording it because He'd broken his fist in a fight with lemmy. So they got the drummer from Girlschool to play Drums on the track. With Girlschool sharing the vocals anyway, it was neither motorhead or girlschool...so hence the release came under the names "motorhead/Girlschool" or "headschool".

Their biggest hits were:
#5 : 21.02.80: please don't touch (Motorhead/Girlschool)
#6 : 11.07.81: motorhead (live ver)
#8 : 03.05.80: Golden years live EP
#8 : 03.04.82: Iron Fist
#15: 01.11.80: Ace Of Spades
#34: 01.12.79: Bomber
#39: 10.03.79: overkill

4.Bruce Dickinson from Iron Maiden on the other hand, is a rockwhore who will do anything for money, from doing a BBC documentary to compiling endless reams of cheap and tacky 'best of' compilation albums by Cheap Trick, Alice Cooper, The Scorpions and Saxon to clog up the racks in your local supermarket for 2.99 a pop. The sooner he stops, the fucking better.

5.The u2 album is winner of worst album title of the year already. it is entitled "How to dismantle a nuclear bomb" . An atrocious title.

The last album they did with Steve Lillywhite before this one was entitled "war". My vote for an a better album title which would reflect this, would be "peace". . Simple and effective.

6.Apparently, good looking people use interweb dating sites. Not all of them weirdos either. Is this rare?

Only because it's not you doing the fucking. It's normal to assume, when you're not getting any and working all day, that people on the dole do nothing but fuck and have fantastic sex with stunningly beautiful russian women they meet on the internet.

And you know something? it's true . They don't have to get up early to get to a job they hate AND they have better sex than you. HA HA HA HA

7.This is the jewish sign for the letter 'A'. But look closely...

Spock was having difficulty explaining the vulcan death grip to captain 'love machine' shatner and instead just decided to demonstrate the vulcan 'cum grip' instead. Two in the front, two in the back, and thumb for clitoral stimulation. BINGO!

8.Much as I love fight club, this really would be a huge turn off. There you are mid shag, her legs around your neck, and suddenly the words of tyler durden appear in your head. Bit of a turn off, i would say.

9. Razzle or Knave? Razzle, definitely. but why?

The readers wives are carefully selected to look mining enough to be real, yet good enough to be fuckable. And the proof that they are real? The sixth formers at my school used to pin them up to the noticeboard in the common room. Which led to Miss Bradshaw the English teacher being politely asked to leave ....courtesy of her appearance in the magazine. This was back in 1983.

Razzle: It’s the tesco value brand of the porn world.

10. Things not to do when drunk. Especially back in 1993.Vomited down myself in a club whilst the girl i was desperately trying to pull was saying "are you alright?" but thinking "shit, im not gonna shag him now, he can't handle himself let alone a fucking pint!"

11. This is the silliest article today. "There are major challenges that we must overcome before digital technology can be rolled out in Africa," said Stephen Moses of the Nigerian Television Authority . I'd say the main challenge is the fact that fiven the choice between food parcels and broadband, we ain't gonna see anyone starts eating broadband connection for nutritional value.

12, oh dear, charlotte. Looks rough. looks like I she's practising for the days to come when she's spunked all her money up the wall on chav boyfriends and has to make interslice cumshot porn to stay in booze and fags....

Church ... wild parties

13. The column of a girl going blind, but writing for the guardian. She's single, apparently.

14.Whats this? Tony trying to flee the country on a train and getting caught by the Rozzers?

Well, he's been consorting with known war criminal George Bush jr.as decreed at the international tribunal for Afghanistan Apr 2004, AND for selling weapons to states that harbor terrorists. Such as the recent arms deals to Iraq. "If you harbor a terrorist, or aid a terrorist, you're a terrorist" said King Dumbya 1st. looks like Tony better give himself up to me....

15.Useful and Effective for keeping your bed at night. Why?

One of these with the batteries in is what the Rozzers use them as makeshift coshes: What a nice feeling it is, having a completely legal eighteen-inch long lump of weighted aircraft-grade aluminium ready just in case. The 5 battery versions are best, apparently.

16.They really weren't impressed at my old workplace when i realised they hadn't uninstalled all the other screensaver options. For months, my workplace monitor had scrolling messages nicked from the Manics, Holy bible album, which is ten years old now. Slogans such as "I know I believe in nothing But it is my nothing" or "I am purity they call me perverted".

My career after that was shortlived. Was it the fact it was in a minimum of 24 point text In lurid Pink and Green tho?

Mind you, one of my ex-bosses was so stupid as to not delete her web history back in the days when you could send free SMS messages over the net. We discovered one that read "Don't tell your girlfriend this, but I think you are well fit. fancy a shag?" Classy girl. Thing was, before she came back, we proceeded to text him things like "I'm sorry. What i was trying to say is I'm desperate for a fuck and will let you shit on my chest if you want."

I don't think those two got together, somehow.

17.I had a life once. turned out to be more than i could cope with. So I downgraded to Microsoft Existence lite edition and things have been so much easier ever since.....

18. I'm off to make a friend made of pillows and go to bed. . I've had 2 hours sleep in 33, and is a little sleepy. Bon nuit.
Here's my nomination for quite possibly one of the most offensive scenes from any movie ....ever.

So What’s going on here then? A Huge Mushroom cloud explosion over North korea? A cloud with a radius of up to 4km (2.5 miles) had been spotted in Yanggang's Kimhyungjik County, an area known to be thinly populated and containing underground bases containing medium range ICBM’s?

Don’t sweat it, apparently. According to the South Korean preisdent’s office, "Our government information for now shows North Korea has not conducted any nuclear test. We are trying to confirm whether it is fireworks, a fire in mountains or an accidental explosion." Sources say it’s not nuclear. Me? I’m not as convinced. Why? When did fireworks ever produce a mushroom cloud 2 miles across? Jesus, that must be a big firecracker.

Apparently, the explosion took place on Thursday. According to the BBC , North Korea has in the past admitted to having Nuclear weapons.

This news comes after 2 days ago, on Friday 10th September, South Korea has admitted conducting secret nuclear experiments involving Uranium and Plutonium. North Korea's UN envoy Han Song-ryol described the South's "nuclear experiment" as a "dangerous move". "We view South Korea's uranium enrichment programme in the context of a nuclear arms race in north-east Asia," Mr Han told South's Yonhap news agency. "It has become difficult to prevent expansion of a nuclear arms race because of South Korea's test," he said.

Yesterday, North Korea admits it is even more determined than ever NOT to abandon it’s nuclear weapons programmes and the foreign ministry Of North Korea said , "It is self-evident that [North Korea] can never abandon its nuclear programme under such a situation..." said.

It’s known that North korea has the means to produce plutonium , via an operating nuclear plnat that can produce enough plutonium for ONE nuke a year. Krypton 85, which is produced in the process of plutonium extraction, has been detected by the US in the waters off North Korea.

Which makes one of two possibilites:-

i)it was a accidental detonation. if so, it would probably occur where stored underground, and in doing so, would not create a mushroom cloud. If it was an accidnetal detotnation of a medium range ICBM in a silo, then a mushroom cloud is entirely possible due to proximity to surface of the launch silo.

ii)It was a deliberate explosion. A test. A proof to the world of it's nuclear capability. For North korea to then state it will not abandon it's nuclear plans the next day, is a clear and present sign of it's intentions and capabilites.

Welcome to the nuclear club, North korea.

It’s the end of the world as we know it, and we feel fine. As president Stillson said in the Dead Zone “The Missiles are flying! Hallelujah!”

Endgame. However to this page , the Korean govt has confirmed a massive NON nuclear explosion. "The accident took place in a mountainous region 1,500 meter above sea level around Yongjo-ri, where it is known that there were many munitions factories nearby. In particular, the exact spot of explosion is only 10km away southwest from the Yongjo-ri base for Rodong 1 and 2 missiles and some 30km away from the Sino-Korean border"

"The intelligence authorities assume that an ammunition depot with over 1,000 tons of dynamite or an ammunition car may have exploded, or there may have been a chain explosion of chemical material or a big fire. Some Chinese sources argue that a massive explosion took pace in a munitions factory"

Which sounds plausible, and to be honest, much more reassuring than the nuclear scenario.I suspect however, If you want the answer, watch The History Channel in 2044. They will be carrying a special about how the U.S.A, single handedly, won the war on terrorism and the segment on North Korea will fill in the rest of the details, about their clandestine effort to bring down North Korea without having an overt war.

Some people have already posited that it smells of Special Forces goign in and blowing something up.As, as claud cockburn says, The democratic West with its free press/media, sems to be very happy to accept that there's nothing untoward in an unexplaiened explosion in a secretive Stalinist dictatorship with nuclear capability, therefore EVERYTHING'S ALL RIGHT.

But if you want to see how a non-nuclear mushroom cloud looks like, look here :- a video of an accident at a Rocket fuel plant where a large quantity of ammonium perchlorate detonated. They estimate the second blast (about 55 seconds in) was equivalent to 1.5 million pounds of TNT.

That is of course, assuming the history channel and so forth still exist in 2044, and hasn't been turned into microfine particles of radioactive dust in the apocalypse, where troops from King Dumbya 1st's Armies engaged in battle against the evil islamists gathered around the plains of Megiddo.

Dumbya would pick up his bible, refer to the book of Revelation 16:16 , and smile at how he has singlehandedly fulfilled the prophecies of Armageddon. He and he alone is responsible for bringing the second coming of Christ to earth. but will Christ look at him and smile? Or will christ judge him for the countless deaths he has been responsible for, sanctioned and approved. Remember , after September 11th, he didn't have to kill anybody. None of the 1,000 US troops who have died in Iraq. None of the 54,000 who have died as collateral damage in iraq. none of those who died in Afghanisatan. None of these.

hell, I'd expect it to look like this.

And in other news, was a micro-nuke been exploded in London just over a decade ago? This page has some compelling evidence to suggest that might be the case. It sounds insane on first glance, but if it’s claims are ture, then they are shocking. Apparently, while the British Government was busy convincing its citizens "The IRA did it", London TV cameras were accidentally filming a team of experts entering the blast area wearing full nuclear protective clothing. Which isn’t exactly normal behaviour for experts investigating a bomb made from the traditionally used IRA components of ammonium nitrate & diesel. Why would you need a ABC suit for that? But when the BBC announced the weight of the bomb at 45kg, which is the exact same weight required for a blast of that size by a tactical nuke weapon, then it’s very very worrying.

The same site also invesitgates the possibility that the bali bombing was a micronuke also ; eyewitness reports state a white mushroom cloud seen after the explosion.

And what other kind of bomb could fit in a 12 inch across sewage tube yet create a crater 40 feet deep and 60 feet across? Yet the indonesian goverment have apparently claimed it was made of "non conventional explosives" - a micronuke also. And According to a Russian-American symposium article on low yield nuclear devices (page 158-159) "a low yield nuke of .02 would have a high temp kill zone of a 100 meters or less, 330 feet or less."
The kill zone in the Bali Blast according to news reports? The first 200-300 feet or so. They even equipped their investigating team with respirators to prevent inhalation of nuclear dust.Bizarre

Other stuff:-

1)Try reading this column by the guitarist on how he approaches his guitar playing. Fascinating, and informative. I use many of the same approaches myself; the bass is an instrument for creating sound , rather than simply playing a bassline,. Use it, exploit it, get what you can out of it. Explore the possibilities of sound. Seems to be what he’s doing too.

2) Burberry are apparently, discontinuing their caps, as they have realised that they have become scumwear. This will, of course, not stop the production of snide knock-offs will it? Not at all.

3)And this game is infuriatingly addictive.

4)This is the U2's cover of Kraftwerk's "Neon Lights", apparently.

5.Boys, but we all know the rule don't we? crazy women = fantastic sex. It's always been true in my case, the more insane the woman is, the better the sex. (However, the inverse is not neccesarily true - that you can only have fantastic sex with crazy women. Sometimes you can have fantastic sex with sane women too. Or at least thats what I'm told, whilst I'm kept here in the psychiatric ward at any rate)

6.Not included in a recent documentary on jewish comedians, the shame! the shame! But have no fear, Captain Chaos is here!

Remember, him wouldn't like that.

7. Gangsta Culture is a deadly virus, says BBC sports presenter and former Tottenham Hotspur striker Garth Crooks, claiming that 'gangsta' street culture was a 'deadly virus' that was destroying a generation of African-Caribbean boys.Phillips told the gathering of parents, teachers and educationalists: 'Our girls and especially boys face exclusion, denigration; they face failure, they face destruction. For every boy from our community at a university campus today, there are two in jail. That is the measure of the crisis we face.'

Too true, but did he have to invoke the "by any means neccessary" line from Malcolm X to justify sending his Kids to a private school?
